GM recalls 3.4 million more vehicles for faulty ignition switches, which may turn the car off during normal operations. The latest recall includes these cars and model years: Buick Lacrosse, 2005-2009; Chevrolet Impala, 2006-2014; Cadillac Deville, 2000-2005; Cadillac DTS, 2004-2011; Buick Lucerne, 2006-2011; Buick Regal LS & GS, 2004-2005; and Chevy Monte Carlo, 2006-2008.
It is still unknown the number of car related fatalities associated with ignition switch failures. GM claims 13 car wreck fatalities associated with ignition switch failures, but GM only recognizes front impact fatalities. Sherrod & Bernard, P.C. is currently involved in litigation against GM that involves a side impact fatality caused by a loss of control when the ignition switched failed during normal driving. GM recently announced a number of changes in its management and legal department that many observers suggest are associated with the withholding of safety information from the public.
